UPDATE: Roswell has taken a 42-19 lead in the third quarter after scoring two touchdowns by Zeke Barrientos and an impressive 43-yard gain by Luis Rodriguez.
UPDATE: Alamogordo’s Tiger football team has scored 19 points against a potent Roswell team at Tiger Stadium tonight, but it still finds itself behind 28-19 at the break.
The only real difference has been the 14-0 lead for Roswell after two touchdowns in the first quarter. Luis Rodridguez put the first points on the board with a 59-yard ramble, while Danny Castro made a spectacular catch for a 39-yard touchdown reception to give the Coyotes a 14-0 lead with 5:41 left in the first.
Alamogordo was able to answer when Qymani Patterson got a 36-yard run to the corner of the endzone at 1:12 left in the first period. From then on, the teams have traded scores. The Tigers headed into the locker room with momentum as Tristan Bowman got stacked up on the line and found his way around for a touchdown with no time on the clock.
Patterson is the leading rusher for the Tigers, amassing 100 yards on just nine carries. Roswell’s offensive output has been even, as three rushers are in double figures, led by Luis Rodriguez with 85 yards.
Alamogordo’s football team starts District 2-5A play tonight at Tiger Stadium, hosting Roswell at 7 p.m.
The Tigers enter the contest at 1-2, having lost 27-0 to Organ Mountain last week. Roswell comes in as the Class 5A state runner up from last season and stand at 2-1. The Coyotes defeated 6A power 39-35 Rio Rancho last week.
