The Goddard Rockets football team will host the Artesia Bulldogs at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at the Wool Bowl.

The Roswell girls soccer team captured the District 4-5A championship with a win over Carlsbad on Tuesday night at Cielo Grande Sports Complex.

Roswell volleyball defensive specialist Avi Sanchez and Roswell football wide receiver Danny Castro won Athlete of the Week.

Roswell football overwhelmed Artesia 62-36 at Bulldog Bowl, improving to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in District 2-5A. The Coyotes put together a balanced attack, including two touchdowns each from Jonathan Ellis, Luis Rodriguez, Izaic Gonzales and Danny Castro. Roswell quarterback Andruw Fuentez added four touchdown passes before the Coyotes visit Mayfield Saturday, Oct. 24.

New Mexico anglers can target trout, bass, catfish, bluegill and carp this week, with especially strong trout action in northern waters. San Juan River, Rio Cebolla, Fenton Lake and Lake Maloya are producing well, while Escondida Lake offers catfish and bluegill. Bass are biting at Alto and Greene Acres lakes, and Oasis Park Lake has good catfishing.

Goddard’s volleyball team enters district play with a 14-3 record, building on last year’s 23-3 season and state semifinal appearance. Outside hitters Payton Abalos and Olivia Riffell, setter Landry Brown, middle hitter Liv Flores and libero Ellie Graves lead the Rockets as they prepare for another deep playoff run after challenging losses to St. Pius X and Albuquerque Academy.

The Roswell boys soccer team claimed the District 4-5A championship with a 3-0 win over Hobbs on Saturday at Cielo Grande Sports Complex.

In his first season leading Goddard High School cross country, Dewayne Roberts is drawing on nearly two decades of coaching experience. After guiding the Rockets’ volleyball team to a 2022 state championship and taking a year off to recharge, Roberts has embraced the challenge of helping runners improve and peak for district and state competition.

Clovis angler Noah Hoffman won the New Mexico Bass Nation Kayak Anglers’ year-end tournament at Ute and Conchas lakes, earning the series’ Angler of the Year honor. Drawing on his familiarity with both waters, the U.S. Air Force captain caught 19 largemouth bass totaling 164 inches despite muddy conditions after overnight rain.
