JT Keith

JT Keith serves as the regional sports editor for El Rito’s southeastern New Mexico newspapers, directing coverage across Carlsbad, Artesia, and the Roswell Tribune. Based in Artesia since February 2025, he works from the local newsroom to cover the Bulldogs’ storied football tradition while elevating the city’s broader sports community, including cheer, band, and emerging athletes who shape Artesia’s identity. Before arriving in New Mexico, Keith spent two years in Jackson, Mississippi, as USA Today’s HBCU sports editor. His coverage centered on Jackson State University during the high-profile Deion Sanders era, producing reporting and interviews with Sanders and standout players such as Shedeur Sanders, Shilo Sanders, and Travis Hunter. Keith also managed and edited more than 50 sportswriters across the South, helping guide USA Today’s regional college sports coverage.
Republican gubernatorial nominee Gregg Hull says he would sign legislation limiting the duration of New Mexico governors’ emergency orders and requiring legislative oversight for extensions. The proposal follows pandemic-era restrictions and prior efforts by former Rep. Greg Nibert to impose 30- or 90-day limits. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s administration opposes the changes, citing potential emergency response delays.
An opinion essay argues that prominent American critics of Israel, including Hasan Piker, Ilhan Omar, and Zohran Mamdani, apply charges of genocide, apartheid, colonialism, and war crimes selectively. It contrasts their rhetoric with the histories of Turkey, Somalia, and Uganda, urging them to acknowledge abuses associated with their homelands before condemning Israel or America.
