A five-day operation by Roswell Police Department led to more than two dozen arrests, part of a coordinated effort against retail crime.
In all, 29 individuals were identified and arrested for retail theft and related criminal activity as part of the operation and $6,184 in stolen merchandise was recovered, according to a news release issued Monday by the city.
The Roswell Police Department’s Crime Reduction Team spearheaded the operation, in conjunction with the department’s other officers, agents and detectives, as well as local businesses and store asset protection teams. No names of individuals charged were disclosed in the release.
Combating retail crime is important because losses from theft can lead to significant financial losses for businesses and increased security costs, which can then be passed on to customers in the form of higher prices, according to the news release.
“These types of operations demonstrate the importance of partnership, intelligence sharing, proactive policing and coordinated enforcement. By bringing together law-enforcement personnel, specialized units and Store Asset Protection Teams, RPD is better able to identify offenders, recover stolen property, develop cases and hold those responsible accountable,” the news release stated.
