The New Mexico Department of Transportation will hold a ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony for former LPGA player Nancy Lopez at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at U.S. Highway 285 South and the Roswell Relief Route Intersection.
The route will be designated as the Nancy Lopez Relief Route. Lopez, a Roswell native and Goddard High School graduate, was known for her success in the Ladies Professional Gold Association where she had 48 LPGA Tour wins, four LPGA Player of the Year Awards and an induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame. She has also served as an ambassador for women aspiring to compete in the sport.
This ceremony will recognize Lopez’s legacy, contributions to women’s sports and her connection to the Roswell community, read a news release. It will begin with the dedication ceremony, followed by remarks from community and state leaders. The official ribbon-cutting and unveiling of the roadway sign will take place afterward. Light refreshments will be served as well.
