We endorse Martin Zamora in the District 3 race for U.S. House of Representatives. A Clovis area native and lifelong resident of the district, Zamora has spent his life in agriculture as a rancher and farmer. He has served in the New Mexico Legislature since 2019 as representative of House District 63.
The 3rd Congressional District includes San Juan, McKinley, Sandoval, Rio Arriba, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Taos, Colfax, San Miguel, Mora, Harding Union, Quay, Curry, Roosevelt and portions of Eddy, Lea and Chaves counties.
Zamora, 63, a Republican, is running in the Nov. 3 general election against the incumbent 3rd District House member, Democrat Teresa Leger Fernandez of Las Vegas. Leger Fernandez, 67, has been the District 3 representative since 2021.
While serving in the state Legislature, Zamora has worked successfully with both parties and understands key issues including water rights, water use and conservation. He has a keen understanding of the district’s vast agricultural and natural resources.
Among his top priorities if elected to Congress is to see that the government expeditiously pays the families who lost their livelihoods and property in the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon fire. He rightly feels Leger Fernandez has not pressed the government sufficiently to fulfill its obligation to compensate the many families that suffered losses.
Zamora says his overall objective is to focus on family economic issues, particularly job creation. He notes the Los Alamos National Laboratory is in his district and slated for vast expansion,
which will require additional housing and infrastructure needs, potentially creating thousands of jobs.
We believe Zamora has admirably represented the needs of New Mexicans as a state representative and will continue to do so if elected to Congress.
