Incredibly, the Roswell Daily Record held on and held its head high for an amazing 135 years.
The Daily Record built one of the best reputations in the state for news, for serving its readers and for being a strong economic contributor and worthy corporate citizen.
Today its past is the past. Transition and change are here. In this country at least one newspaper a day dies, goes out of business. When that happens, the community loses one of its fundamental touchstones.
Time, new and fickle reading habits, and an expanded variety of news consumption options caught up with the gloried history of the Roswell Daily Record. The newspaper as we have known it all these decades has changed hands.
Folks in Roswell, take heart. Your local neighbors want to help fill the void. Newspapers and their staffs in Artesia and Carlsbad are here to help. Both papers were acquired by El Rito Media LLC within the last four years. We are now offering you a new source of local news: the Roswell Tribune.
El Rito’s mission is to save local news and local papers. The company now owns the Rio Grande Sun in Española, the Alamogordo News, Artesia Daily Press, Carlsbad Current-Argus and Ruidoso News. El Rito Media owns more newspapers than any company in New Mexico. We have reinvigorated news and local newspaper leadership in each of our communities.
El Rito offers a full complement of news products including a daily website for each brand, online breaking news and updates, e-editions and newsletters, all featuring comprehensive coverage of local news – city and county government, schools, crime, and a special focus on local sports.
Best of all, we are 100% New Mexico. Our owners all live and work in New Mexico. Our newspapers and online products are all produced in New Mexico. We understand New Mexico and are dedicated to keeping our readers informed.
Newspapers are the bedrock of democracy. We shed light on government, often exposing those who want to hide the truth or give you a warped version of the facts. We celebrate the achievements of our citizens. We are the protector of the First Amendment and the public’s right to know.
We fight for you.
Hats off to Barbara Beck, her staff and the legacy of the Beck family, which has kept the Daily Record in local hands for so long. We wish them the best and thank them for their perseverance.
Feel free to contact us with your ideas and opinions, and please let us know how you would like to help us serve and inform the people of Roswell. Reach managing editor Adrian Hedden at 575-628-5516 or achedden@elritomedia.com.
Welcome to a new era of local Roswell news.
