Anglers seeking optimal conditions for some of New Mexico’s favorite fish this week should head to Lincoln County or other popular spots in the southern region of the state.
At Bonito Lake in Lincoln County, trout fishing was fair to very good using PowerBait, spoons, spinners and salmon eggs, and fair to good using Panther Martins and worms.
Trout conditions at Lincoln County’s other popular fishing spot, Grindstone Reservoir, were good using Garlic PowerBait.
West of Silver City at Bill Evans Lake, fishing for bluegill and carp was good using inline method feeders. Fishing for catfish was fair to good using chicken liver, bluegill and inline method feeders.
In Las Cruces, fishing for bass at Young Park Pond was fair to good using 1/16-ounce jigs with micro soft plastics. Fishing for bluegill and sunfish was fair to good when using live red worms or wax worms on a slip float setup No. 8 hook. Fishing for catfish was good when using worms.
Near Truth or Consequences at Elephant Butte Lake, fishing for largemouth bass was fair to good when using spoons from the shore.
In northern New Mexico at Bluewater Lake, fishing for catfish was slow to fair using liver and hot dogs. Fishing for tiger muskie was very good when using rainbow-pattern Strike Kings.
Fishing for rainbow trout on the Rio Cebolla was good when using grasshopper flies.
Below El Vado Lake, fishing for trout was good when using hand-tied flies.
Along the San Juan River, fishing for brown trout was good using size-22 red larva flies, midges and small dry flies in the quality waters.
Along the Pecos River, fishing for trout was very good using worms.
