Loving Falcons senior quarterback Brodie Allen passed for 71 yards and rushed for 64 yards as Loving bucked the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) Colts Sept. 4 in Roswell 24-6.
The Falcons scored early in the first quarter to go up 8-0 in the first three minutes of the game after a touchdown and a two-point conversion, but that was all the offence that was shown in the first half, as both defenses made multiple stops. This caused the score to stay at 8-0 entering halftime.
The third quarter saw the most points scored in the game, as the Falcons added on to their lead after a touchdown by Allen put them up 16-0. The Colts did respond later, as Brock Spear scored on a 29-yard pick-6 to shrink the lead to 16-6, entering the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter saw another touchdown by the Falcons, to put the score at 24-6, which would be the final of the game, dropping the Colts to 0-2, while the Falcons jumped to 3-0.
Allen finished the game completing 7 of 15 passes for 71 yards and two touchdowns.
On the ground the senior had 17 carries for 64 yards and one touchdown for the Falcons.
Loving junior wide receiver Rider Gonzalez had 7 catches for 71 yards and two touchdowns.
NMMI’s Rodrick Thompson was the leading rusher on the team, having 10 attempts for 53 yards. Thompson also added a forced fumble on defense. Pacen Phillips had 47 receiving yards, the only receiving yards on the team. Julian Butler led the team in tackles with six, four solo and two assisted.
Loving is 3-0 and has an off week before traveling west to Grant County Sept. 18 facing the Cobre Indians in Bayard.
